Is Heaven Real?

In a Gallup poll, 85 percent of people said they believe that Heaven was real.

Keep in mind this wasn’t a poll merely for churchgoers: this was a poll from the general population, believers or not! The belief that Heaven exists is widespread, and there’s a good reason for that.

God has built us with an ingrained understanding that this life is not the end. We have an eternity with Him waiting for us.

This Life is Temporary, But Heaven is Forever

2 Corinthians 5:1-2 reads, “For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in Heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing.”

Our earthly bodies are limited, but our souls are eternal. When our body fails us in this life, it’s NOT the end: God has a place for our eternal souls to live forever, and that place is Heaven.

Heaven is a real place where you’ll spend eternity if you are a believer in this life. We know Heaven is real because we believe in Jesus, who Himself came from Heaven! Because of humanity’s sinful nature, we can’t make it to Heaven on our own: that’s why we need the salvation Jesus so freely gives through His sacrifice on the cross.

When we put our faith in Jesus, we are given eternal life. His death on the cross paved the way to Heaven for us.

In John 11:25, Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.”

Jesus couldn’t make it any more clear than that!

The Bible makes it clear that Heaven is not only real, but that it’s the very throne of God.

In Matthew 5:34 Jesus says, “I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by Heaven, for it is God’s throne…”.

While our world is only temporary, Heaven never ends. Heaven is God’s Kingdom, a place of perfect peace, joy, and power. There we will have security forever.

Jesus Came from Heaven, Our True Home as Believers

Jesus has returned to Heaven in preparation for our arrival. After His time with His disciples after His resurrection, Jesus ascends back into Heaven.

In Acts 1:11, the angels said to the disciples, “Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into Heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into Heaven.”

In the book of John, Jesus Himself tells us He is going to Heaven to prepare a place for us, then promises to come back to bring us to where He is!

John 14:1-4 reads, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Jesus is in Heaven right now, preparing a place for us. There He serves as our High Priest before God, as told to us in

Hebrews 8:1-2: “Here is the main point: We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in Heaven. There he ministers in the heavenly Tabernacle, the true place of worship that was built by the Lord and not by human hands.”

What Will Heaven be Like?

What is Heaven going to be like? The Bible paints a remarkably beautiful picture of that for us.

Revelation 21:3-4 reads, “I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

Have you ever read something so beautiful? We will be able to experience a face-to-face relationship with God once again. The barriers we experience in this life will be removed forever. Not only that, but God’s very hand will wipe the tears from our eyes as the pain of this life is taken away forever. In Heaven, we will only know joy, peace, and love for eternity.
