Every year around 1.6 billion Christmas cards are sent in the United States alone.
According to Hallmark research, nearly three-fourths of consumers who send holiday cards do so because they know how good it feels when they receive a holiday greeting.
How did this start?
Englishman Henry Cole conceived the idea of Christmas cards in 1843. Too busy to write a personal holiday greeting, Cole hired well-known London artist, John Calcott Horsley, to design a card he could send to all his acquaintances.
Louis Prang, a German immigrant, is credited with bringing the idea of Christmas cards to America. In 1875 he printed a card that showed Killarney roses and the words “Merry Christmas”.
Sending Christmas cards is a simple task, but there are some specific things you should keep in mind.
Here are some helpful tips to ensure that you get the most joy as you send a little bit of Christmas spirit to everyone on your Christmas card list.
1. When To Send Out Christmas Cards?
Answer: Send out Christmas cards to family and friends 2-3 weeks before Christmas day.
You should always send out Christmas cards right after Thanksgiving and no later than during the first full week of December to avoid sending your cards out too early or too late.
2. When To Order Christmas Cards?
Answer: Order Christmas cards 1-3 weeks before Thanksgiving Day.
If you want to bypass the cost of rush shipping and potential delays, order your Christmas cards before Thanksgiving rolls around.
Wait too late and you may find the Christmas cards you wanted are sold out or more expensive than you planned.
This is a stress-free time frame that separates you from the millions of individuals who order Christmas cards right after Thanksgiving.
3. What makes a good Christmas Card?
It seems nowadays a lot of Christmas cards are losing their religious message. It seems that those who design and manufacturer Christmas cards have forgotten its true meaning.
A proper Christmas Card will convey a message about the true meaning of Christmas and have at least these 3 elements:
A traditional Christian image or symbol — such as angels blowing trumpets over a stable, Jesus in his manager, the shepherds and three wise men following the star to Bethlehem, a Church, a Cross etc.
The word Christmas in the greetings — like "Merry Christmas" can often feel special for those you share your faith with and for those recipients who celebrate their faith during the holiday season. Sentiments like "Season's Greetings or Happy Holidays" has no relevance to the Bible and ignores "Christ" in Christmas altogether.
Christmas Bible Verses — God's word is the most important element. In fact in Isaiah 55:11 God promises that it will prosper wherever it is sent.
“So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: It shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 KJV
4. What To Write In A Christmas Card?
Add a personal message and signature — Even better might be a short, handwritten personal note to each of your recipients.
This gesture will show that you took the time to personally attend to and mail the cards.
The people who open the cards will appreciate the warmth from the message meant specifically for them.
5. Include your return Address
When your card is received, the addressee will know right away who sent the card. The return address also ensures that they have your current and correct address for mailing out their own cards in return.
6. Mail a Christmas Card or Email One?
Many people still prefer actual cards rather than e-cards because they like to display them on the mantle.
This gesture will show that you took the time to personally prepare and handle the cards.
The people who receive the cards will have a tangible physical item meant specifically for them.
7. Insert a Cross Penny, Angel Penny or Heart Penny
Sharing the gospel with loved ones can be easy! People love getting unique items and Airstrike Pennies from Heaven is a unique way to make your Christmas cards memorable and extra special.
Card recipients will feel so good receiving Airstrike Pennies from Heaven
Everyone loves the Airstrike Cross Pennies from Heaven because it is a real penny that is very unique and it is something they have never seen before.
Last year, I ordered 100 of your cross pennies & put them in my Christmas cards along with the poem in the above picture. Many people responded & told me they absolutely love them & carry them with them always. So after this whole Coronavirus thing started, I ordered more & as I go into places where people are brave enough to continue to work, I give them one as a token of my appreciation for working. They always thank me & one cashier at my pharmacy even broke down & cried & said, “You don’t know how much I needed this...God is the only thing getting me through this & now...now when I look at this penny, I’ll have a constant reminder of His love.” So thank you Airstrike, you are a inspiration of hope & love in these troubled times. God bless you.
